Mountainlands Community Health Center (MCHC) has experienced a significant growth rate over the last five years. In order to accommodate patient demand for low-cost quality health services, MCHC has expanded its full-time provider staff from four to ten providers since May 1995. This resulted in nearly 35,000 patient encounters in 2001.

MCHC is the only provider in Utah County that offers comprehensive primary care, dental, and mental health services on a sliding fee scale.

Unique Characteristics
Utah County's high per capita birth rate requires MCHC to focus considerable resources on obstetrical care. Since redesigning its prenatal care service model in 1999, MCHC has increased both provider efficiency and the quality of medical care. MCHC physicians delivered over 450 babies in 2001 (versus 320 in 1999).

Utah County is experiencing a growing minority population. Currently, 76% of MCHC's patients are of a racial minority. MCHC providers are culturally sensitive and most clinicians are bilingual.

MCHC is JCAHO accredited (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations).

Services Offered
MCHC's mission is to utilize health professionals who collaborate with other partners to ensure high quality health care for everyone in the community.

In addition to acute and chronic care, MCHC offers health promotion and prevention services. Mountainlands in 2001 continued to focus time and energy on people with diabetes. The continued efforts in the treatment of diabetes is one way that providers and support staff are making a difference in the quality of life for patients. MCHC also understands that it is difficult for the community it serves to access medical care during regular working hours. To help solve this problem, MCHC offers services five days and four evenings per week.

Growth
MCHC is experiencing excessive demands for sliding fee medical services. Because of the rapid rate of growth, limited facility capacity and maximum provider efficiency, MCHC has expanded into an additional facility in Payson Utah, Payson Family Health Center:
