Community Health Association of Mountain/Plains States (CHAMPS), Friday, November 20, 2020: The CHAMPS John Mengenhausen Presidential Award recognizes individuals for their contributions to CHAMPS governance and leadership, and this year it is being presented to Dr. Keith Horwood to honor his unwavering commitment and countless contributions to his health center and to CHAMPS, to Region VIII, and to the national Community Health Center Movement.
Over thirty years ago, in 1989, Keith joined Community Health Centers, Inc. in Salt Lake City, UT, as a family physician. He served as the Medical Director from 1996 to 2011, and he now acts as Associate Medical Director and Director of Provider Development. Keith believes in the power and importance of educational health centers and teaches medical students, physician assistant students, and family medicine and OB residents in the outpatient and inpatient settings. His knowledge and expertise coupled with his compassion and kindness make him an ideal instructor, mentor, colleague, and provider.
While his work at CHC, Inc. keeps him incredibly busy, Keith finds the time to be an active member in local, regional, and national health center networks. He completed a two-year term as a Clinical Representative on the National Association of Community Health Centers Board of Directors, and has served on NACHC’s Clinical Practice, Policy, and other committees. Keith has also worked with NACHC since 2012 as primary co-faculty for their Training for New Clinical Directors, traveling across the country, and sharing his passion for his profession and inspiring countless new providers.
Keith has also brought his invaluable clinical and FQHC expertise to Region VIII as a member of the Mountain/Plains Clinical Network Steering Committee since 2001, acting as both co-chair and chair of the committee during his tenure. Most recently, Keith has led CHAMPS as President since 2016 and has served on the CHAMPS Executive Committee for 11 years and the CHAMPS Board of Directors for more than 20 years.
