Payer Contracting and the Future of Value Based Contracts

Overview: Participants of the three-part contracting training series will gain more knowledge and confidence to tackle the contracting environment with payers, work towards enhanced reimbursement for services, and prepare for future reimbursement strategies as the health care industry evolves. 

Series Overview:

  • Part 1: Let’s start with the basics. Part 1 will focus on defining terms, reviewing what contracting options FQHCs have available, and discussing the flow of funds.
  • Part 2: Building upon the basics, Part 2 will go through the contracting process, specifically the types of contracts, who should be involved, and how to handle the negotiations.
  • Part 3: The final presentation will focus on value-based reimbursement. Additionally, value-based models will be reviewed and examples from across the country will be shared.

Speaker Bios:

Amy Brisson: 

  • Graduated in 2008 with a degree in Accounting from Northern Illinois University
  • Worked in the HOA Management Industry in Las Vegas, NV for over 5 years
  • FQHC expertise: accounting, revenue cycle, budgeting, dashboard reporting, operations, HRSA financial reporting, compliance, and site visits, and more; Former Chief Financial Officer for an FQHC in Portland, OR
  • Joined CLC in March 2018; opened MN Office in March 2019; became Partner in January 2020
  • Served in the CFO capacity at 9 community health centers across the nation

Carolyn Commers: 

  • With 20 years’ experience, Carolyn is an outstanding resource for health centers needing help with cost reports, key performance metric dashboards, UDS reporting, grant writing, and financial analysis.
  • Director of Practice Management for a large hospital system and operations manager for 14 multi-specialty clinics, she honed her operational management skills, financial analysis, revenue cycle management, organizational improvement processes, strategic planning, budgeting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Has earned degrees in management, accounting, and psychology.
  • Is active in several professional organizations, including the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA).
  • In addition to her work with CLC, she also provides leadership for the Business Management Advisory Committee for Spokane Falls Community College and the Community Colleges of Spokane Worker Retraining Advisory Council.
