Utah's Community-Based Health Centers (CHCs) grew tremendously throughout the 1990s, yet only five percent of Utah's low-income, rural residents and 1 in 4 of Utah's low-income, urban residents are currently served by the centers. This is mostly due to the fact that the number of uninsured and working poor in the state is rapidly growing as well.
AUCH and its member organizations recognize that in order to meet the goal of 100% access and zero health disparities, community partnerships and creative strategies are required. AUCH believes that through well-organized and sustained community development efforts, communities can build consensus and move towards action.
AUCH currently provides technical assistance to several medically underserved communities and is available to assist any Utah community working to increase health care access or eliminate health disparities. Technical assistance is available in the following areas and can also be tailored to meet individual community needs:
Facilitating community dialogues about health care access
Setting goals and developing a work plan
Increasing collaboration between existing health service providers, and
Developing new community health centers and rural health clinics
