Online Learning Series: Preparing your Health Center for SBIRT Implementation (Week 1)

OVERVIEW: The Mountain Plains Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC), in collaboration with the Association of Utah Community Health (AUCH), is offering the following FREE training opportunity. This online learning series will provide 12.5 hours of instruction including blended group and self-study activities as well as performance feedback related to the utilization and implementation of SBIRT. The topic of Compassion Fatigue will also be discussed. Follow-up virtual coaching sessions to discuss workflow issues and sustainability concerns will be made available to series participants; coaching sessions will be scheduled and published at a later date. As part of the series, registrants are required to participate in the Orientation Technology Session on June 13th.

WHEN: 12:00-1:30 PM (MOUNTAIN TIME) ON EACH OF THE FOLLOWING DAYS:
  1. June 13 | Wednesday Orientation to Technology Session (60 minutes only)
  2. June 27 | Wednesday
  3. July 11 | Wednesday
  4. July 19 | Thursday
  5. July 27 | Friday
  6. Aug 1 | Wednesday
OBJECTIVES:
  • Identify applicable alcohol screening tools for use in general, pregnant or adolescent populations cared for in a Health Center setting.
  • Identify one drug screening tool applicable for use in a Health Center.
  • Demonstrate a brief intervention utilizing the FLO algorithm.
  • Understand use of a warm handoff to facilitate referral for high risk substance use behavior.
  • Identify the signs of compassion fatigue in the workplace
  • Discuss sustainability of SBIRT in a Health Care setting.
TARGET AUDIENCE:

Attendees of the AUCH face-to-face 2018 SBIRT Training

PARTICIPANT COMMITMENT AND EXPECTATIONS:
  • View a 20-minute video tutorial on how to use the Zoom video-conference platform (access information will be provided upon completed registration)
  • Participate in a live Orientation to Technology Session on Wednesday, June 13that 12:00 p.m. MT (Note: Training session is scheduled for 60 minutes only)
  • Participate in 5-weeks of training: 1.5 hours weekly on scheduled series days/time and complete ONE hour of weekly homework/assignments
  • Access to appropriate technology to utilize online videoconferencing platform (i.e., webcam)
  • Be prepared and actively participate during scheduled series time
CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS (CEHS):

This series has been approved for a total of 12.5 (includes 11.5 hours of instruction and 1 hour for the Orientation to Technology Session) contact hours through the National Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC), International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC), and the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) ACEP No. 6492.
